About Women's Running Stories

A Podcast About Running with Chérie Louise Turner

Women’s Running Stories (WRS) features inspiring stories told by exceptional women runners. This is a podcast rooted in the audio storytelling tradition, so get ready for a listening experience that’s a little different.

Hear from women who are achieving excellence and changing their lives through the sport of running, in the myriad ways that can happen. Discover the many ways running shows up to improve women’s lives. Get motivated to discover and reach your own running goals by women who’ve been there.

Regular episodes feature one woman’s running story. From stories of motherhood like from Molly Huddle and Sally Kipyego, to masters excellence from Sue McDonald, to stories from pros on the rise, like Erika Kemp and Emma Grace Hurley. There are changemakers, like Kelly Bruno, activists, like Alison Marielle Désir, and community builders, like Liz Rock. Over 100 stories await!

WRS features episodes that focus on big events! Learn all about South Africa’s grand gem, the 90-km/56-mile Comrades Marathon. The marathon majors—Boston, New York City, Berlin, Tokyo, Chicago, London, and new for 2025, Sydney—are also very popular focal points for many stories. And in fact, a few years ago we created the series Roads to Boston, which traces the journeys of 9 women from the start of their running pursuits through to the finish line of the 2021 Boston Marathon. WRS also follows the USATF Road Circuit series of races through race reports: each of these episodes features a top-10 finisher telling how the race went down from her perspective. Get an inside look at racing and learn more about the US professional field through these exciting episodes.

Host Chérie Louise Turner shares much of her own running journey. She’s run the 90km Comrades twice, in 2022 and 2023. Currently, she’s on a mission to run a sub-20-minute 5k, at age 54. You can follow her journey in real time in the Over 50, Sub-20, 5k project episodes.

The upshot is this: runners featured vary widely, from world record setters to community change-makers to legends in the sport. And the stories are as different as the runners who share them. The one thing they all have in common is an interest in achieving excellence through the sport of running.
